Deer ***Note: This blog first appeared on my Caris Roane blog in August, 2017 I had such a narrow understanding of deer before doing this bit of research. I thought deer had a certain kind of antler and the rest were ‘something other than deer’. I think it goes back to my dad hunting deer and coming back with the familiar antlers with a certain number of points. Clock Towers ***Note: This blog first appeared on my Caris Roane blog in July, 2017 Time. Deep breath or big sigh. Take your pick. Time governs us all.  Over the last few months, I’ve started using a simple timer while I work. It tells me when to stop and it tells me to hurry up because I’m running out of time for whatever task I’m performing.  To be honest, it works very well for me and helps me move from one project to the next with a fair amount of ease. Clock towers have helped entire communities stay on task. Rice Terraces ***Note: This blog first appeared on my Caris Roane blog in July, 2017 Humans are amazing. Taking a step back, I marvel at so much of what we, as people, are able to create. Sometimes, it’s through necessity and sometimes through the sheer love of creation. Rice terraces were definitely out of necessity and they are a marvel. As I began exploring the beauty of rice terraces, I discovered that this method of planting is ancient as in thousands of years old. Even more amazing, the earliest creators of these hillside wonders used crude tools and their bare hands. They didn’t have the shovels we have today, for instance. As a hobby-gardener, I can relate…sort of. I’m not exactly carving out hillsides and shoring up what will be very wet rice paddies. I’m not worried about my Mesquite and Lantana providing food throughout an entire year for my family. But in terms of shaping the land, yes, that I can relate to. Kittens Honestly, I couldn’t help myself. I was over at Pixabay , cruising all the photos, and found one of a kitten. I was lost from that moment and knew I had to collect a bunch to share here. Other than puppies, I don’t think there is anything more adorable than kittens. I grew up in a family that always had at least one cat running around the house and I remember kittens being born in a closet in our home. It was a miraculous and a beautiful part of my childhood. As an adult, cats have been part of my married life almost from day one. I feel I’ve been blessed to have had so many kitties in my life. I’ve loved them all and I’d love to have more.
